About the Role

MetroPlains Management is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated  Property Accountant to join our Operations team. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial tracking and reporting for our portfolio of properties. You will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including tenant and vendor transactions, monthly reconciliations, financial reporting, and special projects—all while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

• Track tenant activity and communicate with property managers
• Post monthly rent rolls and vacancies; apply miscellaneous tenant charges
• Process and record payments and receipts for designated properties
• Generate receivable reports and late rent notices as needed
• Manage vendor inquiries, process invoices, and issue payments
• Reconcile and manage all cash accounts; establish new bank accounts as needed
• Prepare and distribute timely internal and external financial reports.
• Support financial audits, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting
• Assist in annual budget preparation and forecasting
• Accurately post and analyze general ledger transactions
• Maintain software data integrity and support ongoing software proficiency
• Perform administrative accounting functions and prepare professional correspondence
• Manage priorities and deadlines independently with minimal supervision
• Maintain professional and effective communication with team members, vendors, and residents

Total Compensation:

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in accounting or finance preferred
• Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial reporting
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi preferred), MS Excel, Word, Outlook
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Self-starter with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Standard office environment with regular use of computers, printers, and other office equipment
• Minimal noise level
• Occasionally required to lift or move up to 25 pounds
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and use of technology for communication and documentation
