Job Description
Seattle Central College is looking to hire a full-time biology laboratory technician IV in the STEM-B Division.
Salary Range for this position is $58,632 to $76,944 annually (depending on experience).
Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will begin
August 21st, 2025. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM-B, positions at this level supervise staff and/or have significant responsibility in planning, developing, implementing, and reviewing scientific instructional support programs requiring knowledge of a STEM discipline. Responsibilities involve supervising lab staff performing scientific instructional support including professional and technical work for the biology department; providing technical and scientific expertise in the coordination of biology instructional materials for biology faculty.
This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
This position works 100% of the time on-site.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

What you will be working on: - Directs the work of lab staff including interviewing and recommending selection of applicants, training new employees, assigning and scheduling work, acting upon leave requests, submitting feedback for annual performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions
- Create and maintain budget tracking procedure
- Purchase supplies and equipment for all biology labs
- Develops and implements plans for facility and equipment to meet teaching needs
- Coordinates functions related to scientific instructional programs such as media rooms, stockrooms, specimens, and chemical collections using safety procedures in handling hazardous materials
- Consults with biology faculty to assess their laboratory classroom needs
- Makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements with biology faculty relating to their specific instructional needs
- Plans new approaches to educational problems that may involve the use of instructional material in its traditional form or in specifically designed innovative forms;
- Oversees the proper upkeep and function of lab equipment
- Coordinates with faculty coordinator on use of lab space
- Provide support for instructors by preparing for labs, including microbiology culturing
- Develops culture schedule
- Quality assurance and quality control on all stock cultures
- Maintains compliance with the regulations governing handling of bio safety level 1 and 2 pathogens
- Prepares reagents, solutions and buffers for microbiological, biochemical and/or chemical tests;
- Set-up and break-down lab activities
- Performs script writing and editing for scientific instructional packages
- Studies and evaluates new trends and developments in media production and equipment technology; makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements to faculty and professionals relating to their specific educational problems;
- In support of faculty and as directed, may lead and direct laboratory portion of selected classes

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in biology or related field and three years of laboratory prep experience. OR 4 or more years of relevant education/experience.
