Job Description

At My Business Resource (MBR), we equip organizations to attract, retain, and nurture top talent—fueling long-term success and creating empowered, engaged, and equitable workplaces. With a genuine, honest, and partnership-driven approach, we support small and mid-sized businesses across industries through strategic HR consulting, recruiting, leadership development, and compliance solutions. We’re proud recipients of the Inc. Magazine Power Partners Award in Human Resources for two consecutive years (2023 & 2024).

Our culture is rooted in our values:

  • Honor : We are honest and direct, upholding transparency and trust in every interaction without overpromising or underdelivering.
  • Persevere : We continually seek out new information and diverse perspectives, ensuring our work is accurate, prompt, and driven by thoughtful decisions that benefit both clients and our team.
  • Discover : We embrace growth with a mindset of curiosity and adaptability, always striving to improve our services and deliver productive, results-oriented solutions.

Position Summary: We’re looking for a client-focused, experienced HR Consultant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll serve as the trusted HR partner to multiple small to mid-sized business clients, providing strategic guidance and hands-on support across all areas of human resources. You’ll juggle a variety of industries, people, and projects—no two days are the same.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, build strong client relationships, and believe HR should be a driver of business success (not just compliance), we’d love to meet you.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a generalist or consulting role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate HR language into business impact.
  • Strong time and energy management skills—you know how to prioritize and adapt quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and maintain confidentiality with clients.
  • SPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30 or other safety certification preferred.
  • Experience in multiple industries is highly valued (i.e. construction, skilled trades, healthcare, manufacturing).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage strong, trusted relationships with MBR clients, acting as their dedicated HR partner
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues and other assigned consultants to identify client issues and develop strategic HR solutions
  • Conduct HR assessments and implement tailored recommendations that align with client goals
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on federal and state employment law, providing timely and accurate compliance guidance (FMLA, ADA, EEOC, etc.)
  • Provide support for employee relations, including investigations, conflict resolution, harassment allegations, and disciplinary actions
  • Prepare and maintain accurate HR records related to hiring, terminations, transfers, leaves, and promotions using HRIS software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, BerniePortal)
  • Administer and manage HRIS systems and recommend process improvements for greater efficiency
  • Oversee OSHA recordkeeping and manage workers’ compensation claims in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Manage benefit programs, including open enrollment, new hire enrollment, terminations, COBRA processing, and vendor communication
  • Coordinate with insurance brokers to identify, evaluate, and implement benefits that meet client and employee needs
  • Fulfill all reporting requirements for relevant federal and state government agencies (EEO, ACA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Administer 401(k) plans, including enrollments, required notices, coordination with advisors, distributions, and compliance filings
  • Manage unemployment, disability, and life insurance claims with appropriate documentation and follow-up
  • Design and deliver employee onboarding, performance management, and leadership development programs
  • Partner with clients during major organizational changes such as restructuring, culture shifts, or leadership transitions
  • Support and lead special projects as assigned, with a strategic, proactive mindset
  • Organize and maintain both electronic and physical HR files in accordance with best practices and compliance standards
  • Actively participate in the HR and business community through networking, job fairs, and professional events
  • Travel daily to client locations within the Greater Columbus area to provide on-site support as needed
  • Operate effectively in a billable hours environment, managing time and client workload efficiently

We conduct background checks as part of our pre-employment screening process and follow all EEOC and FCRA regulations regarding the use of criminal records in the hiring process.
