Science Teacher with Physics specialism needed in Sharjah | ASAP start | 20 minutes from Dubai

The ideal candidate will already have experience of teaching in the Middle East and will be able to start immediately.

The school is one of the largest in Sharjah with a total of 4100 students. Most of the students are Emirati where English is not the first language. Teachers come from various countries and the school is a very busy environment. The school has recently completed a new extension to the building and is part of a large education group in the region.

As a teacher here you will need to be well organised, hard working and have excellent classroom management as the students are quite lively and require lessons that are practical and hands-on;

Science Teacher Job Description

• Plan effective lessons of Science to Middle and High School students
• Create lab work material before the lesson
• Ensure your classroom is a safe place for lab work
• Ensure you are differentiating to meet the needs of your learners
• Provide positive reward for high achieving students
• Meet and greet with parents
• Attend staff duty
• Be involved with after-school Science Club
• Create engaging wall displays to promote the teaching and learning of Science/Physics
• Attend staff briefing
• Attend parent evening when needed
• Ensure you assess your students on an on-going basis and provide support with those that are underperforming
• Be an excellent team player but also able to work independently and contribute to the Science department

Requirements to apply

• Degree in Science or related subject
• A PGCE with QTS in Science or valid USA state teaching license in Science specialising in Science
• Have an EXCELLENT command of written and spoken English
• A clean DBS record
• Excellent references on file
• Ideally 2 years of teaching experience 
• If you are able to speak Arabic it is beneficial but not essential

This International School, Sharjah is a flourishing Nursery to Grade 13 school that provides a high quality education service leading to internationally recognised examination qualifications (IGCSE) and AS levels with student access to higher education, both in the UK and worldwide. The School opened in 1991 and has undergone an extensive building programme over the past decade, which is now near completion. There is an early years’ campus for children from Nursery to Grade 1, a separate campus for Grade 2 to Grade 4 (Primary) and the Main Campus which houses separate Senior Girls and Boys Schools.

The Senior School facilities are equally impressive, with separate departments for English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Art and Design, and Languages. Our student population is a rich international and multi-cultural mix, with approximately 35 nationalities represented, the largest single group coming from the UAE, other Middle East countries and Asia as well as a small number from UK, USA. The School is in the process of receiving CIS Accreditation. Parents predominantly, though not exclusively, come from a professional background and have high academic aspirations for their children who themselves are highly motivated. There are over 200 (full-time equivalent) teaching staff supported by a dedicated technical, administrative and maintenance staff. The teaching staff, recruited both locally and overseas, are well qualified, experienced and highly motivated.

The curriculum followed is largely based on that of an English National Curriculum school, while also taking into account the Islamic dimension of the school’s location and the diverse make up of the student population. The English National Curriculum has been largely adopted, but suitable modifications have been made, where necessary, based upon the professional judgments of staff. Arabic is a compulsory for all students. Outside visits and residential expeditions are integral parts of the curriculum in the Senior School. They include UAE based expeditions and Humanities trips to the other Emirates.
