Under the direction of the Chief Assistant Attorney General (Chief), the Staff Services Manager II (SSM) performs at the full supervisory level, providing the Chief with expertise on highly complex and sensitive policy evaluation, managing the administrative activities, and resolving difficult program-related issues within the Public Rights Division (PRD, Division) of the California Department of Justice. The Division serves Californians by safeguarding the State's environment and natural resources, protecting state lands, maintaining competitive markets, preventing fraudulent business practices, protecting consumers against misleading advertising claims, preserving charitable assets, and protecting civil rights.
The SSM serves as a highly skilled internal consultant to the Chief, working closely with the Division’s 12 Senior Assistant Attorneys General, Supervising Deputy Attorneys General, and approximately 600 legal professionals to accomplish the mission of the Public Rights Division. The SSM is a subject matter generalist possessing strong analytical skills and managerial abilities, and will be responsible for supervising a team of professionals committed to excellence in the PRD Executive Office; overseeing fiscal and personnel matters within the Division; managing the $200+ million dollar budget; monitoring expenditures, collections, and projections for over a dozen sections with multiple fund sources; and serving as liaison with other departmental programs including budgets, accounting, personnel, contracts, client matters, legislation, budget change proposals, facilities, property control, and procurement.
